Log cabin Days January 2023

Bild
Very unusual: There is no snow around (the cabin is 1'450 metres above sea level). I enjoy those days on my own, can spoil myself with meals that we normally do not cook. Like Borschtsch (my friend Ollie from Chippenham told me about this). And I can do "woodwork" in our little forest. Here some pictures: No snow at all! The water from our well is running perfectly   Borschtsch cooked at the Outdoor citchen These tilted alder trees will be cut     Fully equiped with security helmet; -boots -and trousers  Part of the job of the first "working day" done    Second working-day: The logs have to be split up with a splitting- and a sledge hammer. This is hard work!   Therefore a break is necessary! Result of second working-day. I am tired but satisfied!    Pile done! Just under two cubic meter   Temporarily covered   The cabin   And here the view across the valley  In the night of Tuesday we got 15 cm snow My track in the...

Schaf - Alpabzug Widderalp am 17. September 2022

Bild

Third day March 29 2022

Unplanned work appeared This old pile collapsed...  So I had to rebuild it  Job done! This took me quite some time  This, by the way is our outdoor-shower!   A new (unplanned) job! During the winter, the mice have dug many burrows in the grass. Since I cut in autumn the grass by hand with the scythe , I better flatten all this soil using a rake. This was quite a job. You probably ask yourselves, why I do not "get rid" of the mice. Well, in the first year when we had the cabin I did buy some traps that I installed in the mouse holes. I was successful! But when I took the first (dead) mole out of the hole, I felt so sorry for "him", that I stopped killing them. With those two unplanned jobs I was not able to cut some more fir-trees. The last two and a half hour I cleaned the cabin and made it ready to be left alone for some time. and then I walked down to the village, where I took the last "Postauto" (public Coach)  which brought me down to the Railway stat...

At the Log Cabin March 28 2022, second day

This pile I wanted to "work through" Old, dry branches of a fir-tree The thicker branches will be used in the outdoor-stove. The thin ones are helpful to start the fire Cutting the branches... And stapling them besides the stove Those fir-trees have to be cut, they are getting too tall Ready for the job! all safety stuff (trousers helmet and glove, also the shoes I wear are safety-ones) The bigger fir-trees are "gone" A bit further down I noticed two alder-trees which had fallen down, so I cut them into pieces Job done! all the wood including the branches are piled up and covered!
