A few days on my own in the Log Cabin mid September 2024
Sept. 19th through 23rd I was on my own in the cabin. The weather was
fine, though quite fresh, in the evening it was mostly 8 degrees
Celsius. This is no problem, I have plenty of wood, ready to heat the
oven.
Since I recently had to have a piece of skin and flesh cut out
on my upper left back (black skin cancer), I had to take it steady.
This means no woodwork and no (or only very little) grass cutting.
This
means, it were really relaxing days. I took a book with me, which was a
present of our friend Dave from Cornwal. The book is about the story of
laying the first transatlantic telegraph cable: "The Cable That Changed
The World".
Of course I cooked nice meals and enjoyed the days.
Here some impressions:

From the final stop of the "Postauto", it is about a 30 minutes walk. Carrying the necessary luggage, it was quite a job.

One of the first things to check after arrival is, if the watersupply from our little spring works.
IT DID NOT WORK!
This means, I had to take some tools and stagger up to the water catchment. The water intake was in order. After some further investigation I found the "corpus delicti": A hose-coupling had opened!

After putting the peaces together, everything worked fine.
A couple of days later, I went up again and fitted two hose clamps to make sure this does not happen again.
Here the main meal I cooked on the outdoor stove:

And here some of the flowers still blossoming:

Chicory lat.: Cichorium intybus (Wegwarte)

A favorite of mine (actually a spring and summer-flower):
The Oxeye Daisy (Magerwiesen-Margerithe)

One of my favurites.

Lat.: Coprinus comatus (Schopftintiling).
They were just beside a path that I walked. They are edible and taste good, but only when very young. Later, they turn "inky" as can be seen in the upper part of the photo.
